Parents getting unhappy

As the parents are beginning to see the outcome of their 7 year olds toting zippered binders as big as they are from class to class, and seeing grades drop and kids not being able to remember what teacher told them what, we are beginning to hear some rumblings from the parent sector. One parent asked if the kids just HAD to have homework, and I could only ask her if she truly thought 45 minutes per day was enough for instruction and practice once you subtracted the time it took to settle 7 year olds down enought to focus....she just gave me a grin and a shrug! Have any of you ever heard of doing such as thing as we've been told to do this year? 2nd graders, 5 classes per day  45 minutes each.
