Our school has a Young Authors Celebration each spring. Each year we do a different theme. One year we made paper waves and put them up on the walls around the building with beige paper beaches below. Our tables outside of each room were covered in beach towels and we added a sand bucket and shovel with each teacher's name on it, beach balls, and children's drawings of sea critters in the waves and on the beaches.
Another year we did a Spotlight on Young Authors. We used a black and silver theme, covering our tables in black and white plastic tablecloths and adding silver stars, spotlights, sparkly top hats from the party store, and a "marquee" in the front hall(bulletin board paper surrounded by flashing white Christmas lights.
We have also had garden themes(flowers and vines everywhere!) and a picnic in the park theme.(red checked cloths, larger than life ants...)
Parents are invited to come one evening for a couple of hours to tour the Celebration and we take the children around at different times the next day. It's always a success and the children feel very special. Hope some of these ideas help!
