this may not be quite what he means, but is an idea that generated a lot of reading in one of my schools years ago. Each student, or group of students read a book. Then the group or student created a parade float out of a large cardboard box to illustrate the book. All of the classes in the school or grade participated and then we had a school Parade of Readers. Awards were given for the various floats, and entrants in the parade had to answer questions about their book in an interview with the Parade Judges before they were announced as the winners in a big balloons & clowns ceremony that culminated the parade. That might not be what he's looking for, but it was pretty creative!
