How about creating a generic form for those that have finished to do some extra report work on a subject of their choice. They could have some choices of projects to with it--a picture board, a tri fold, a written report,etc.
You could quickly gauge points possible according to choice of project.
I have a GeoSafari that kids use in spare time. There are many, many cards that go with it on all subjects. It occupies a couple at a time.
You could have file folder activities for them. For example, word finds, crosswords, math challenges, etc. A jigsaw puzzle is a working idea too. Maybe some of the
more reliable ones that finish early could help answer questions of those not completed or organize things for you--like putting papers turned in, in alphabetical order for quick grading and checking for missing papers.
Hope these ideas are helpful. This is a challenge to us all.
