Writing
By Ellen

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach them to use the "hamburger" method for writing a paragraph. The top bun is the topic sentence. The meat, cheese, lettuce, tomatos, are the details, and the bottom bun is the concluding sentence. I actually drew and photocopied a hamburger template with space for them to write in their sentences in each section.

One writing activity I used was to interview a partner and write a story about them. This may take more than one lesson. I had them first develop questions they could ask their partner to find out more about them. After they completed their story, they drew a picture of their partner. These were displayed in the hall, and the students loved seeing how others view them.
