The kinds of things people are posting here, with parents complaining about their individual kids' needs and teachers' supposed shortcomings, are behaviors that are completely inappropriate for Back-to-School Night. At my school, the principal reminds parents that BTSN is not the time to bring up questions or concerns about their individual situations. These are things to be discussed at parent conferences (a few weeks after BTSN). She includes that reminder on the flyer that goes home announcing BTSN, and she also includes it in the monthly letter she sends home to parents. Maybe if other teachers at your school are having the same kind of problem, which is a big time-waster as well as being completely demoralizing for you, you can suggest as a group that your principal set those kinds of guidelines for parents.
