You don't know what baggage the parent is carrying around. Maybe they have had some bad experiences and that is why they don't trust you or are being "picky." Build their trust by being thorough, use all your reflective listening skills, and diplomacy. Keep them well-informed of what you are doing in the classroom as it pertains to their student and how the student is progressing. BE POSITIVE! Find something good to say about them or their student every time. However, realize that you may need to assert yourself from time to time. DOCUMENT! DOCUMENT! DOCUMENT!
Keep a "Parent Contact Log" to record notes about every phone call, written or in person conversation you have with them. Continue to collaborate with the team. Some issues really need administration to step in. Good luck.
