Clip to ScrapBook
You described a student that I had when I taught preschool. I'd ask him a question about what he did over the weekend, for example, and he'd answer "Mommy". He was four, also. He'd stare into space, laying down on his
side, rolling a toy truck back and forth. All sorts of strange behaviors. I suspected autism based on that and other behaviors.
I began documenting, and after two months, we called his mom in for a conference.
It was not at all easy. She was devastated, and it broke my heart to tell her that we felt he should be tested.
I knew, however, that it was the child I was doing this for.
He
was tested by the special services dept of the school district he'd attend kindergarten for. Unfortunately, it was up to his mother to take him, and we weren't allowed to see the test results (which I thought strange). Nothing was ever done for this child, and to this day, I believe that his mother never took him as she said that she did.
I left soon after, but I often wonder what ever became of him.
