Good for you!
By Tricia

Clip to ScrapBook
Good for you but I think you misunderstood me and this is the last time I will defend what I said! I am not labeling just stating that I am not a wanna be. I'm really sorry you can't see that and if you want to continue
to argue then please do! I, and most of the teachers on this site have gone through so much since graduating from college and recieving our teaching licenses. We have been treated badly, called names. I think you get the idea. All I am trying to do is use this forum to sort through my feelings and share my experiences with other licensed teachers that are going through the same thing.
Are you a licensed teacher? If you are not then you cannot possibly understand what we are going through and therefore cannot tell me that what I am saying is wrong. Only licensed teachers that are going through this can understand how I feel! I'm sorry if that sounds like an attack but if you are a sub, and I think it's great there are people that are able to do it because it isn't an easy job, then you just can't understand! I too am at fault here because I assumed that everyone that posts here are licensed teachers and so I apologize to any substitute teachers that post here! I never intended to label. But I do have to wonder why Brian is so defensive about what I said? Having been a licensed teacher that subbed for two years while teaching at Sylvan Learning Center I have to say that I understand what a tough time subs have! I remember the first day I subbed at an elementary school! It was the first week of school and I was still hiped about getting a job and definitely didn't know how things worked. Well I learned fast! When I entered the lunchroom I saw a group of teachers that I went to school with and four of them graduated with me! So I went over there with a big smile on my face just thrilled to find familiar faces to lunch with. It took me 10 minutes to realize that I was being rejected! I guess I was in denial! Finally one of the girls that graduated at the same time as I did turned to me, this was her first week of teaching ever, and said,"Only teachers sit at these tables." She then pointed to the other side of the room and continued,"Babysitters sit over there." WOW! I never realized the division! I thought subs and teachers worked together and being a licensed teacher who was stuck having to sub to get her foot in the door? So maybe I too am guilty of thinking like they do and that's why I refuse to be called a wanna be. Why on earth would I spend time wanting to be something I already am? Bryan I'm really sorry if you can't understand how I feel and I guess you shouldn't have to. The paths we walk are completely different I just hope that someday the path of subs and teachers can be the same. Attacking me won't change how things are now but can't we make an effort to get things rolling? As a teacher I have vowed to NEVER treat subs the way I've been treated by licensed teachers, administrtators, parents, students, and other subs. When I get a classroom I plan on not even using the name sub when referring to the person that will stand in for me on days I can't be there. I saw in a book, can't remember the name, another name for the person that stands in and I just loved it! V.I.P. sounds so important and the job they do is! It stands for Very Important Person! I have even been playing around with ideas as to how to make the day enjoyable for all in my room, especially the V.I.P.! I do tend to ramble on and am so sorry! Please don't take this post as an attack, arguement, or labeling! We are what we are and nothing can change that! What counts is that I KNOW THAT I AM A TEACHER and no one, not even you (I am being polite)can change that! If you want the last word in this then please do but I will not respond to your posts again no matter how angry you get! I refuse to get caught up in an argument that no one can win. Instead I want to focus on what we are all going through and what has led us to this site and that is the emotions of what we are going through as licensed teachers that are looking for jobs in classrooms! Because that is all it is, a job not a social class! Lets call a truce get this conversation going in a more positive direction! After all we are all after the same thing: working with children!
