Being really really old
By Julianne

Clip to ScrapBook
I remember the "four basic food groups" which we used in the dinosaur days before the food pyramid. I think it's always interesting to hear what the current ideas are in science. But as a teacher in the lower grades your real reason for presenting this information to the kids is to encourage them to eat a balanced diet. It probably isn't critical that they know exactly how many grains or fruit servings they should have per day. The real trick is to get them to understand that a snickers bar and a Dr. Pepper probably isn't a good breakfast choice! You're right about science evolving, and that's a good thing to mention to your kids, so that when they have to learn the new improved food pyramid in a couple of years, they'll understand why.
