    My district's policy

I work in Ontario, CA. We are a fairly large K-8 district that uses "Subfinder". Priority is given first to the requested sub if any. Then to the interns awaiting placement (they move in order through a list)then through the other subs in number order through the list.

I have for the past 2 years held a Substitute Credential for Prospective Teachers, which allowed me to sub while I finished my Bachelors Degree. I had more flexibility than I had with my prior job of buyer.

I'm number 3128 so it can sometimes be a while before I get a random call, but I'm kept pretty busy by my regular teachers. I am practically a residential sub at one school(k-6 with 1200 students), subbing for all of the K's and most of the rest of the primaries.

My suggestion is to market yourself out for request jobs. I made cards on my computer and distributed them at every school that I subbed at. I also bought some magnet backs that I put on the back of some of my business cards and left them on the refridgerators in the teacher's lounge. This work for myself and my sister who subs in a different district. She worked nearly every day last school year.

    Hope this helps.
