    Hi Traci,

I cannot raise my voice very loud ever, so this is what I did when I had the kids outside last year. I talked to the class about how important it was for me to be able to get their attention when we were outdoors, but that, as they knew, I don't talk very loudly. I then said I needed someone to act as my voice outside, and I chose a "voice" for the period. The kids were great. My "voice" for that period kept in good visual contact with me, and if I signalled for that person to tell everyone to stop what they were doing, or I told that person to get everyone lined up to go back inside, they did it.

They were all wonderful about it. I think it's good for kids to realize that you need their help, too. We had fewer behavior problems those days, in fact, than when they were outside with other adults with loud voices.

    Good luck!
