I get to class a bit early and make a seating chart on a 3x5 card. I draw the desk arrangement and write the student's name in the appropriate box (seat). Most of the children don't realize I'm holding the card because I usually have something else in my hand, so many are amazed that I know their name, especially when it's someone "outing out."

I don't care for the name tag system because Little ones tend to play with them and older children tend to feel embarrassed or silly wearing them. Also, the stickiness doesn't always work well enough to keep the tag on for the entire day.
