I just want to let you know that I was in almost the same situation you were last year. I graducated last May, and much to my surprise (and dismay!) I didn't get a job right away like my university led me to believe.
Also, if you dislike the daycare so much, maybe you could sub during the day, and have an easy part time job for the nights or weekends? Maybe you could see if there's a tutoring agency, like Slyvan Learning Centers, but even a non-educational job might provide you with additional income but still allow you the flexiblity to sub during the day. The last piece of advice I have is to keep on trying to get a real teaching job!! After sending out countless resumes during the summer, I was going to give up and just wait until next year. But a friend of mine told me to keep trying - and I actually got hired in December!!! I know job hunting is time consuming, and basically a pain in the butt, but you're absolutely right - nothing compares to a "real" teaching job. I hope at least a portion of my ramblings helped you! Good luck, and let us know how it goes....
