Ideas
By Vicky

Clip to ScrapBook
Our local paper supplies us with papers weekly through the Newspapers in Education program. Their website has lots of ideas.
We cut out the comics and divide them into fantasy and realism. We use the comics to practice writing dialogue. The students can cut out words at random then use them "ransom note style" to make statements, commands, and questions. We cut out nouns and divided them: proper/commom, plural/singluar. We use the ads for math activities. When I do a unit on nutrition, the students have to plan one balanced meals using items they find in the grocery store inserts. They then have to add up how much they would have to spend to buy the items they need.
I hope some of these ideas help!
