I have been working with children and adults with disabilities for the last ten years. I've found that social skills are the most important lessons. When we teach these kids (and adults) how to interact in "the real world" it is an invaluable lesson. Self advocacy skills are also vital. I tend to concentrate on encouraging the kids to maintain eye contact and speak clearly. Any opportunity you get in your class to practice these lessons would be benificial. I always try to remember that everyone has great potential inside them, some just need a little help to get it out!!
Hope it goes well for you,
Sandra
