Listening
By Barb/Cincy

Clip to ScrapBook
Kindergarteners do have a hard time listening and some groups really have a hard time listening!! It takes practice, practice, practice. I am very firm about group time and will stop if someone is not listening. Have you
tried a catchy reminder poem or "give me five" before group time begins? I find this helps give a reminder of the rules. I am at a new school this year and the K teachers use individually color behavior sheets for each child. Each child is given a new sheet on Monday and colors green to start every day. If a warning is given then yellow is colored and another warning a red space needs
to be colored, five minutes loss of center time, and finally blue, a call home. The sheets go home on Friday so parents know how the week went. At the bottom is the rules and what each color means. If a color is changed I indicate a rule number on the color so the parents know why a yellow was colored or red etc. Hope that makes sense.
