I too have a little boy that came to me this year and learned in K to read by sight. His mother told me that he was not taught any letter sounds. I like to think that my classroom is well balanced between Whole Language and Phonics. Our school does not official say Balanced Literacy but that is basically what we do. He is getting the sounds quickly and I am not worrying about him. My goal is for him to have all the sounds by the end of the year. It is not causing problems with his reading so far.
