I started subbing last spring but only received calls from one elementary school. I didn't want that to happen this year. At the start of the new school year I called each of the elementary and middle schools and reminded each secretary ( they make the majority of the calls in our area) that I was available and eager to substitute. I got a call the next day for a one day sub job. When another teacher at the same school fell and broke her ankle the next day, I got called in for two weeks. Make those calls! It really worked in my case.
