YOU ARE NOT ALONE
By COLLEEN

Clip to ScrapBook
I have few suggestions but I need help too. I have taught for over 20 years and I am having the same problem. We have been in school 2 weeks and it has been very hard to get their attention. Usually the first day I never
have a problem but this year started off badly. I made the big mistake of having the kids(28) sit in 4 groups of five and two of four. This was the pits. They talked and tuned me out the first two days. I then put them in rows facing front two by two. They take up so much space this way but they seem to be a bit better. They still are far from settled down. If I waited until
every last one stopped talking I would never get anything done. I have had the talkers miss recess, sent notes to parents etc. I even have an aide to help me. I am willing to hear any suggestions, too. By the way I have the opposite of you rural, middle class Catholic school. If these kids are are future we are in trouble if we don't get a handle on them.
