What it is
By Dawn

Clip to ScrapBook
It is a book by Bear, Templeton, Invernizzi, and Johnston. You give a spelling inventory (I gave mine last Friday), which you grade to place each student at their developmental level of spelling. You then customize spelling
lists for each group.

What I really love about this is the activities. Students sort the words by various features within the words; it is a much higher level of thinking than the usual write the word 5 times or other things (which I admit I have used...) I have been reading some work on brain research and it says that people don't memorize; they only remember things by sorting

them into frameworks.

The book has lots of activities for each level of speller. Plus, for those really advanced kids, it has Greek and Latin roots and prefixes as the basis for spelling lists.

I'm anxious to get started with this program!
