I teach K too. Last year on 9-11 we did not cancel school. Most of my kids had seen it on news or from parents. I told my kids that some people are very bad and that they crashed a plane on purpose and many people were hurt. They could all understand this. It is really important to talk a lot and let kids express their feelings and fears. Reassure them. I do not think it is necessary to go into much detail. Our school is just having a moment of silence this year on 9-11. I would not make a big deal...have them wear red white and blue like the rest of the school and tell them it is because you want to remember many people today that were hurt last year and because we love America!
