hall walking
By Sandra

Clip to ScrapBook
Deb,
I think that it works differently depending on the kids that you have. Last year, at the beginning with my first graders, I walked backwards too. They really needed someone to "lead the way." Once they knew the
routine I followed them.
This year I was promised a rowdy group of 4th graders so I started out with one line, ordered by number. The good news is they are well-behaved and respectful this year. So starting today they lined up by twos--boy/girl.
This is my third year using stop points and they work beautifully. It gives me a chance to catch up when I'm walking behind them.
And,
I remind my line leaders that their job is to walk slowly and quietly. If they walk fast then the whole line starts to lengthen and get sloppy.
I'm sure your kids are doing just what they should be for the beginning of the year. Do what works best and they'll be great hall walkers.
