I took a math institute class over the summer. The best thing I got out of it was the great math/language books there are out there. I purchased the books:M&M's , More M&M's, Twizzlers, Skittles, Math Curse etc. I have had so much fun using manipulatives with these books as springboards to math and integrating language at the same time. I have been collecting those stuffed M&M toys which I pull out as my M&M buddies. Try anything and everything that is real world. I really used to hate teaching math until I took this class. I also have a ball which we throw around the world to practice math facts. The kids love it. Oh, yes, they will probably get out of hand, but they will love math. I'd love to hear more ideas from others.
