I have a 1/2 split, and it works great. I usually write it in front of them...somedays I leave blanks for words I want them to figure out from context...or sight words they should know how to spell. I also let them come up to the message and circle certain things, such as dividing compound words, apostrophes, etc. They really enjoy it! And, it is so good because you can gear certain questions according to the level of the kid...my lower kids might find easy sight words, the higher kids write in words, etc.
