AM Ideas By Janie

Our school purchased AM in late spring (Apr) of last school year. So, my first basic steps that helped me to organize included: (1)what did I want to accomplish during this time window left in the year; (3) what materials| would be needed; and (3)how often would my students work on AM. (1) I decided AM would be used to supplement the regular Math curr; my students would get to know and understand the purpose of the AM program; and three objectives would be assigned to begin. (2)I asked for any binder notebooks to be donated for my (25) students-labeled each outside nb spine #1-#25 in permanent black | | marker; made 25 copies of the scan card in one color and other basic info for students in different colored paper; purchased sheet protectors (3 for each binder) - one for practice, exercise, and test cards to be placed in; purchased erasable tabbed dividers - labeled practice, exercise, test, notes, other. **we had bake sales to purchase these items** (3)Allowed 5 class periods of AM orientation during Math only to start. First day of orientation included - What AM is, Why we are doing AM, Where the AM station w/scanner, printer, and pc are located, issuing materials, care of all equipment and materials. All the teachers who use AM met and worked together on these ideas. Take it slow in the beginning, great payoffs later. As the year came to a close, all of their AM work was in their nbs and this year I was able to pass on their work to 7th grade. We begin AM this week. One great resource is to call your AM in-service rep for helps. Hope this helped some. Take care.
