Congratulations on deciding to be a teacher. It is a very rewarding profession. Here are some answers to your questions: 1. Don't worry about your transcripts, that's all water under the bridge and they won't matter | very much. What will matter down the road is not your grades (as long as they are passing), but how good you are at teaching. And people are very understanding that you can change a lot between 18 and 25. Many people go back to school after 5, 10, 20 years and do very well. Plus, your father's heart attack is a pretty big thing for you to handle at any age, and people will understand. 2. | | You most likely will not need work experience with children. You should get plenty of experience as an El. Ed major (I'm not sure how they do it in your state.) Even if you don't, most schools are very receptive to having Ed. majors come in and observe or even volunteer with students.3. Working abroad is a very rewarding experience, from what I hear from an acquaintance who teaches overseas. You might want to take a foreign language, but you may also be able to get a job teaching to English-speaking students overseas, as my acquaintance has been able to do in both Malaysia and Great Britain. Your college should have more information on this. It sounds like you are on the right track, and I am sure that you will do very well in your endeavors.
