Grades
By Sarah

Clip to ScrapBook
I am in my 2nd year of teaching, so perhaps I am over doing it when it comes to grades. I just want to make sure that I have enough information to back up my grades when conferences come. We have report cards after 9 weeks,
but I keep track of the following things:
- homework- is it completed/turned in or not done
- DOL- completed and correct/completed with mistakes/ not completed or many errors
- Math- I grade on a rubric 0-4 for every assignment or if it is a math game 0-4 on particpation and comprehension level
-Spelling- I give graded spelling tests every week
-Journal Writing- I read
and grade these on a rubric 0-4
-Reading Levels- Before each report card perios I read with each child individually to determine their reading level. We level by K R PP1 PP2 PP3 PP4 or 1 (most of my kids are at R currently)
Other things I keep track of are flashcards (are they returned on Fridays, do the kids know them) I send home 1 book a week for them to read with their paretns and to have the parents sign off, are those returned with signatures or not at all)
I also try to keep ante records on participation when we do phonics work, attitude and behavior in class etc.
Having all of these in a grade book makes filling out report cards much easier for me, and I have the records to back up my grades to parents or my principal. Since it is Grade 1 the grading doesn't take a long time. I also keep samples of student work to show growth or lack there of.
