Open Court

I'm glad there are many of you willing to share ideas. This is my first year teaching. I taught 2nd grade for half a year. Right now I'm on Unit 2 "Animals." So far it's has been ok, but I find myself daily having to rush in order to finish Open Court because at my school we have an hour of computer lab.

Anyway, I've noticed that my students are starting to get bored with blending. I try to change it a bit by picking students to blend on their own or whole class. Sometimes we will blend on the carpet or sometimes we will blend sitting in their chairs. Do you have any suggestions in making it interesting for them?

Oh...I can not stand having to use the puppet. It's so dumb! The kids know it's a puppet and they are bored of him too. I need some HELP!
