Computers
By JenniferL

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Wendy! Use Computers for EVERYTHING!! Have kids practice typing spelling words, write journal entries, type your name a few times, type letters to another (older?) class as pen pals, use a drawing program to illustrate
poems you read during Calendar, get your hands on some really good CD-Roms! (Trudy's Time and Place House, Bailey's Book House, Reader Rabbit Series are all good ones to start with) Make class books using patterned stories (see a post on this board about pattern books for more info) and have kids type their sentences to make a class book, use computers as a lesson idea to teach all
of the parts of a computer (monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.), open up different programs and use them during Read the Room Centers, Make power-point presentations on the stories they read in class (you can get a Power Point viewer even if the computers dont have power point on them), And most of all...BEG your ADMINISTRATION for INTERNET ACCESS!! Tell them that today's kids NEED it to survive in today's world, and if you are to effectively prepare them for the world in which they will grow up, you MUST have the proper tools!

OK, that's enough soapboxing from me. Good luck!
