centres

Clip to ScrapBook
Yes, each group only gets to meet with me once a week for guided reading. However, they also get to do a guided reading activity centre once a week, and the group members help each other out as they study their book/novel.
Instead of guided reading, you might also use this time to do literature circles. I plan on doing this during the second half of the year as the children get more comfortable with reading and with each other.

By the way, these are some of the websites on which I found the activities to use in the centres.

JOURNAL PROMPTS:

INFORMATION STATION:
http://www.education-world.com/a_lesson/lesson205.shtml

SPELLING ACTIVITIES:
A book called: "Individualized Spelling - Intermediate" Published by Instructional Fair TS Denison

LITERATURE CIRCLES:

I hope this helps.

Melanie

P.S. I'm from Canada which might explain the spelling of "centre"
