Activities for 9/11

I'm repeating a lesson I did with my 4th graders last year before a veteren's Day program on What being an American means to me. I'm reading the book "This Land was Made for You and Me" and playing a recording of Woody Guthrie singing it. The we will discuss it and brainstorm ideas about what being an American is and different ways we show it. They are learning about writing expository essays, so we'll probably branch off into some sort of writing as well. The kids loved it last year and it got their creative juices flowing in the "write" direction.
