I spoke with her mother at the beginning of the year. She is not to participate in anything patriotic and she may not celebrate birthdays or any holidays. Her mother told me that she knows what she can/cannot do. She has
been doing it since Kdg. She will keep her home if ahe knows of holiday celebrations. I have researched JW but still do not understand it. I know the reasons why they do things, but I still can't help to think that it is very sad for the children. Someone had said that maybe kids are making fun of her and that is why she has an attitude, but I try to make things as private as possible

and I don't think that is the case. I think she's angry that she has no choice. I truly believe that these parents should not send their children to a public school, because they know that they will be the minority there and it is not fair to them and they will not understand. It is not that I do not respect the religion, but I can not help feeling so sad to see how she is feeling. I agree with the post that said that maybe she is being coached by her parents. Just thinking about some of the things she's said, she'd have to be. I think that I am going to make a folder for her to take to the library and work on while we are doing something that she can't do. That way, she won't have to sit through our discussion and not participate and she won't have to see our b-day celebrations and think about what she's missing out on.
