J.W.'s
By Sarah

Clip to ScrapBook
I have gone to school with J.W.'s and we have a few in our school, and I think we need to be thoroughly respectful of their choices, which are motivated by conscience and religious beliefs. While I personally do not agree
with their stance on blood transfusions and do not necessarily think outright refusal to participate in holiday activities/standing for the national anthem is correct, let's be sympathetic to these children, who are not making these choices but are being centred out regardless. Maybe the girl has an attitude because she is teased about it by others? Or maybe she has been coached by her
parents what to do? Maybe ask the parents directly what they would like her to do during the pledge, because what she is presently doing is not respectful to others in the class. No doubt it's a tricky situation, and I think it's worth learning a little about the J.W.'s to understand where they're coming from.
