Slow start, new school year
By Ken M.

Clip to ScrapBook
Gayle,

In my part of Wisconsin several schools started before Labor Day and several after. So far I have sub'd just one day and have 1 more scheduled later in Sept.

Last year I was called 3 days before school started
to cover high school english (9th and 11th grade) at one of the schools and that lasted 5 weeks. I then had 2 weeks of nothing. I then added 2 more districts and started getting more calls. Starting in April and right thru the end of the school year I was sub'ing on average 4 days a week, several weeks all 5.

Since I knew things would be slow early in the school year I've started to visit

the schools, particularly the elementary ones, to say "Hi" to the kids, teachers and others. Hopefully this will demonstrate my interest in the schools and teachers and kids as I hear from some teachers and others that the kids really like me and prod the teacher to ask for me to sub. A nice feeling when you get that kind of feedback.

So hang in there and you'll soon get plenty of calls.

Best, Ken in WI
