    Hi Jim! I'm really surprised that your idea to switch the seats around got such a positive response. I spent two years substitute teaching in grades K-6. In that time I walked into many different situations.

    In the limited time that you have to prepare, I would go through the plans/materials that the teacher left for you rather than pushing furniture around.

    Continuity goes a long way toward preventing problems. It seems to me that changing the room around is the very opposite of what your strategy should be. In my opinion, your strategy should be to make the day run as normally as possible- to maintain routines that the children are used to. Part of that is where they sit.
