I write directly on the desks with permanent marker. It is easily removable with nailpolish remover or a strong cleaner. (or a busy kid with an eraser) I also use a different marker to put their cooperative group numbers on the desks. This saves time from deciding who is the go-getter, or who the number 2's really are!
