HM reading
By Susan

Clip to ScrapBook
I agreed to pilot the HM reading program this year, so I know what you mean about it being overwhelming! I took a short workshop the other day on it, so that helped a bunch! When I did my lesson plans yesterday, this is
what I came up with:
1. Do a 30 min. "skills" time before reading the stories. This is when the spelling, vocabulary, and decoding are taught.
2. Have an hour to teach the "reading" part of it. We'll read it together and I'll stop occasionally to ask questions and do small activities with it.
3. The extra books are for your students that are on a lower reading level and need
to read something other than the material in the book. I'm going to have them available for students that want more information on that particular topic.

I'll send a sample of my lesson plans for this week, to show you how I'm setting it up. By the way - I won't cover it in the time they give - it'll take me about 2-3 days longer than they say.
