and our students go to the library weekly. Our librarian sounds much like sue d.s. She is also in charge of daily activities during reading month. We also have a librarian aide to assist our librarian. She also does an
Eager Reader book club with different requirements for each grade level. She has a take home sheet that the student and parents fill out together listing all the books they've read. The student returns it to the school and recognition of their accomplishment is placed on a bulleting board in the library. You should see that board at the end of the year - it is jammed full of kids names.
She also gives them either a book mark or a pencil with some reading phrase one it and a stucker that says some reading phrase on it. Our kids love it....oh yes and then outside each classroom is a chart with the kids name on it and a sticker goes on the chart to graph how many books are being read in that particular classroom.....so I gues our librarian really does a lot for our school to promote reading. She also gets memebers of the PTO to dress up as reading characters during reading month and they visit the classrooms....we've had Clifford and many others come in. the kids love it! and our school has 500+ students in it....I think I'll go to school Tuesday and tell our librarian how awesome she is!
