Yes, I worked in a very rough, inner city school last year...and I made my discipline a serious committment! I used a lot of positive praise, reward systems and firm but freindly advice. But mostly what worked was the fact that I treated the kids with respect. Some really good books to buy are Lee Canters Assertive Discipline and Harry Wongs "First Days of School" Trust me - they really helped me surive my first 2 years of teaching!
