center help
By Jamie

Clip to ScrapBook
Tracy, I just opened my own pre-k and I am as cheap as they come. I have been saving scratch paper, yogurt containers, t.p. rolls, spaghetti jars, cream cheese containers, old calendars, and much much more from home & the
office for the past year to use at my centers. One thing to remember is that you don't need a desk area for each center, they can take a tub to the floor or something along those lines.

I created names for my centers and reproduced those on two index cards: one goes on the wall at the center, the other in a pocket chart. Each child then has their own craft stick, labeled with their

name and sticker on it. When they choose a center, they put their stick into the appropriate area of the pocket chart. I only allow two children at each center, so they use this as a self checker also.

It takes time to get them trained in the correct way to use the chart, but once you have that done, you can be doing other things without worrying about whether or not things are flowing smoothly. If you would like, email me and I can get you some attached files of how I layed things out. jamie2-by-2.org
