I also taught at a private school for two years. I loved it, but lack of planning time, low pay and a lot of extra duties was part of the job. We also had a strong focus on the upper grades. I taught 1st. We had two teachers at each grade level and the other first grade teacher and I tried to eliminate the first and second honors for the younger children, but we were told that the Diocese was setting a certain grading standard for all grade levels. (Even kindergarten was moving to A,B,C grades.) Also, the parents really wanted the honor roll for their small children. It was hard because handwriting and conduct were also graded and many times children were average in those areas and that kept them off of honors.
