More ideas... By LindaR

I totally agree with Jo's idea---my kids LOVED to place bets with their white boards A few other ideas: ***You could have the words in a pocket chart (don't put all the words, just some, and randomly rotate as you play | the game). Have the meanings on another set of cards or strips. Time students as they race to match the meanings with the words. This can be done a variety of ways. I can guarantee you that kids LOVE to be timed (whether you set the timer, or determine the fastest by the time they complete). ***Have the vocab. words and meanings displayed (wall, board, or pocket chart), but all | | mixed up. You should have either the vocab or the meanings vertically placed, but the matches mixed up. Kids work in teams. Each team lines up, and go one at a time to the board or chart to match meanings and words (they then go to end of line). This is to be done silently, and if someone doesn't agree with where something is matched, then s/he can remove it and place it somewhere else. No one else on team can say anything, but wait his/her turn. When all matches have been made, and the last person agrees that it's correct, then s/he is to place a star on board. The first team to correctly complete the matches wins.***Use the same setup for Concentration (cards with words and cards with meanings). Have kids work in pairs to match cards (they're face-up) while being timed. They can also scramble their own set of cards and challenge their teammate to a "race" to unscramble.
