Things to Do By Jennifer in OK

You can read aloud from a novel. Ask the kids about main idea, inference, setting, and characters. Have the kids write a brief summary of what you read to them. Review Math skills. If you can find some math 100 problem| drill sheets, you can have the kids do the 100 adding problems in 5 minutes and the same with subtraction and multiplication. This will give you an idea of how much they know and how quickly they can solve the problems. Review mapping skills. I don't know what kind of teacher resource books you have to make copies from, but if you or another teacher has something on hemispheres, latitude |
| and longitude, kinds of maps, etc. you can use those to fill some time. Put some sentences on the board and talk about the different parts of speech. Let the kids cirle the nouns and underline any verbs. Do Math races on the board with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems. Kids love doing this. Play sparkle with some higher end dolch words. If you don't know how to do this, there are posts if you look for spelling games. See if your librarian will allow you to come in and do an orientation on encyclopedias and atlases.Hope this helps! You'll do fine! 4th grade is the best!
