Keeping track...
By LindaR

Clip to ScrapBook
...of each student's proficiency...our report cards had two marks: either a check for "progressing toward meeting the standards," and a negative mark for "NOT progressing..." Fortunately, it wasn't set in stone that a child
MASTERED a standard.

This was a debatable area...what's progressing? Was it just based on District exams? We had a general consensus in our grade level group that if a grade was below a C, then the child was NOT prog. Also, on the left side of report card at bottom of all the grades, we could mark the box that said, "Progressing with difficulty."

I included the District exams

in the final grade, so that pretty much helped me determine if a child was progressing. Someone wisely told me that it's better to error on the side of NOT prog. than the other way around, so that way, no one could come back on me. If I had any doubt about a child's ability to master a particular skill, I marked "NOT."

I used an excellent grading program to keep track of grades, rather than waiting until report card time. I pretty much knew by then who was progressing or not.

I hope I answered your question! By the way, I like your idea of the kids highlighting their standards folders
