language arts
By Farrah

Clip to ScrapBook
My block is split up this way: In the morning we have 30 minutes of language starting at 10:30. We have Spelling immediately following language. My school uses seperate language, spelling, and reading books. After lunch, we have 30 minutes of silent reading, then PE. After PE, we do 30 minutes of whole group reading instruction using basil readers (reading the story and teaching a skill) and then 30 minutes of small group reading instruction using leveled readers that came with our reading program.
As far as language skills, we teach them in this order: Sentences/Fragments, nouns, simple subjects, verbs, simple predicates, pronouns, adjectives, and adverbs. Hope that helps!
