First of all, take a good look at your packet. Here are some things to think about..... Are you just sending busywork home (maybe because you feel like you have to because the other teachers are)? Your class may need work| in different areas than theirs. Is the homework meaningful and reinforcing the day's lessons? Are the assignments short and to the point or are there problems after problems to work out? I teach third grade and I give some homework each night (excluding weekends). It always goes with the lesson and is never just busywork because I "have" to assign homework. We do Saxon Math so there | | is a math page each night, there are spelling assignments to help with studying their words. An English, S. Studies, or Science homework will be assigned when students need extra practice/studying. EVERY night, students need to read for 15 minutes.Have you checked out the ever popular homeworkopoly that everyone is talking about here at ProTeacher? http://www.homeworkopoly.com Those having homework every night that homework was assigned plays the game every Friday. My kids love it! We have been in school for almost 4 weeks now and I have had only 3 students during that time that didn't get to play. They love it and look forward to playing it! Check it out! Have a great school year!
