intro of letters and sounds
By Gail

Clip to ScrapBook
Jim Stone has an excellent program that I have used for four years that can be taught in it's entirety for a group of children like yours or modified to use only parts if children have some concept of sound and letter. The
program is called animated literacy. It combines the teaching of sounds, drawing, printing and song substitution to teach the basic parts of speech. I teach in a community in Canada, close to Edmonton, Alberta and our province is generally moving toward a program originating in New Zealand, called Balanced Literacy. In grade one it is assumed that the students will have enough of a foundation
in sound and letter that itcan be taught through the making words portion of the program. I still use Jim Stone's program because the students for the most part are just not confident enough to jump right in. Jim has the order all laid out in an easy to use manual.
