Oceans of Fun
By Krissy

Clip to ScrapBook
I am using the same theme this year and I am probably going "overboard" when it comes to decorating. I love the torch idea and will have to look into that... Here's what I've got planned so far...

JOBS BOARD: "HATCHING:
Classroom Helpers" I put the jobs on paper eggs glued to clothespins, every student has a baby sea turtle. I took a piece of cardboard and painted it with sand and decoupage glue. I glued the clothespins all around and can rotate the student-turtles every week.

CENTER MANAGEMENT BOARD: "Hooked on Centers!" I glued small paper fish hooks to clothepins and will give every group

a different fish/sea creature to represent them. I will rotate the fish through the board to show what center they are supposed to be at.

BEHAVIOR SYSTEM: "Behavior Beach: Catch the Wave of Good Behavior" I printed out and photocopied a small set of cards for each student with five different colors of shells on them. These will be stored in a pocket chart. Each card represents a different level.

REWARDS: "Dolphin Dollars" I created classroom money that I use for various things in my room.

"Tidal Team Points" My students will sit in cooperative learning groups and these will be a means of managing their behavior as they "compete" to earn points during transition time, hallway behavior, etc. Winning team on Friday gets extra computer time.

READING CORNER: "Reader's Reef: Bite into a good book!" I have a big shark banner to go by the sign. I found some fish pillows and will put a big mural up of an undersea scene.

HALL PASS: I purchased a giant plastic fish from a carnival supply store and will write my classroom name and number on it.

CLASSROOM NEWSLETTER: I will call it the "Starfish Gazette"

STUDENT OF THE WEEK: I will post their photo on a big lighthouse called "The Harbor: Where Great Students Shine!"

GOOD WORK BOARD: "Work to Treasure" I am putting up a big background that is brown paper bag torn to look like an old treasure map. I will glue small clothespins all over it and hot glue plastic gold coins on the pins. This way, I can clip work up when I want to and easily take it down.

WINDOWS/DOOR: I found some fish window clings at a local craft store to put on the windows and door.

WELCOME BOARD (HALLWAY): "Dive into Learning in Mrs. V's Class!" I am printing out a small diver for each student and will be gluing their pictures on the the faces of the bodies. I

FIRST WEEK PROJECT: "Stepping into a new school year!" board with a sandal pattern for each student to decorate and put their name on. I'm going to put them on a brown paper background and am hoping it will look like sand.

MORNING WORK: Our "Think Tank Math Questions" and "Catch of the Day" Writing Questions

CLASSROOM SCHEDULE: "The Sands of Time"

---- Hope there is something here you can use! --

Also, I have found a lot of cheap things at carnival supply stores and a craft store. I made magnets for my board by hot gluing shells to strong magnets. I found a fish net and some plastic sea creatures that will end up decorating something.

Here is a link to my classroom site this school year... it has a beach theme, too. I'm hoping to post some pcitures of my room there by the end of the week! Whew, it's going to be a busy week. http://www.beeyourbest.com/2002-2003Class.html
