Think positive about the new year, last year was last year. You will have your students from the start of the year and be able to get a handle on them much quicker. I've seen many teachers at my school who started mid-year and struggle but they come back the next year and end up with the best class in the grade. Try to stay away from the teachers your students had last year. They will tell you stories about the ones who were bad for them. If you notice any harmful behaviors then you might want to consult with last years teacher. Remember this is a new school year and a new set of kids and the sky can be the limit.
